Korea and Korean media also prefer to avoid the fact that most foreigners are ethnic Koreans, foreign wives, or temporary workers who cannot stay in Korea more than 4–5 years. Korea and Korea media take raw statistics to draw a more favourable picture of “Korea a welcoming country for foreigners”. Economically, Korea, like many developed countries, has been struggling a little bit. Korea used to have a high GDP growth in the past and it’s not the case anymore. The economy has slowed. And more and more Koreans have started to blame foreigners for that issue. When the economy starts struggling, the xenophobia grows faster than grass. Korea isn’t an exception.
