Many people in Scotland have a family connection somewhere to the US. The US-Scotland connection is less well-known and less well-publicised than the US-Ireland connection (I still laugh at the t-shirt There’s no-one more Irish than Barack O’Bama, BTW), but it does exist (names like Carnegie are muttered with quiet approval, for example). We Scots are just a wee bit reticent about our achievements, that’s all.
