It would have been difficult to do the same job in 3rd and still capture Impossible’s unique perspectives. Many of us have a preferred style… guys like Stephen King, for instance, tends to like 3rd person perspective, because it works with his ‘voice’… the way he likes to tell stories. He crafts a story in his head like an architect with a blueprint; and even when there’s a lot of moving pieces, he sees the story from that top-down perspective. That’s why his voice is usually best expressed in 3rd person.
