The VC firm pushed him the same way and asked him to liquidate his investments. Got in contact with the VC firm directly: offered a fair price and to pay immediately. They agreed. He did not expect the payment to happen so fast but apparently he was too busy building allies against me in my own company and did not spend enough time to dig into the business performance… or he might not had good chances for this.
