Mark and his cohort, an amusing trio played by Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, and John Turturro, use clunky 1980s desktop computers in a vaguely near-future setting. What are they doing? Some Sisyphean task involving grouping numbers on a screen and dunking them into pixelated boxes. No one in Mark’s group knows what point any of this work serves, what kind of company Lumon is, how many people work in the larger labyrinthine office, or what their non-work selves think of it all.
