My parents were only teachers. They wouldn’t have had great insurance under the American system. Fortunately, they were British. My father had to retire from teaching due to ill health (deafness and tinnitus) aged 45. He could no longer hear the pupils. Hearing aids don’t work as one ear cannot hear anything. At 30, I had a stroke, developed high blood pressure and diabetes (likely a side effect of the chemo, there are papers on it). I will be on medication the rest of my life.
