For a Polish family, they just made (after all costs) about a year’s worth of salary, at least. I do not know the profits on the Turkish side, but I do not think they were subsidizing poor communist Poles. During this period, I did not hear any “bad stories”. No cheating. It was very friendly. I know of some lasting contacts, transcending small trade business into true human friendship.
