I’d say they effectively managed to cross a level of prediction precision that makes for a really good user experience. In retail, inventory is held in many locations at various states in the supply chain / logistics flow: at the manufactures, in distribution centers, in local warehouses, in transit, in storage rooms of the retail stores, on the shelves of the retail stores. And, getting slightly more granular, there is one more place inventory is held: in the hands of a customer while he/she considers the merchandise. In all of those places except for that last one (the customer’s hands) the inventory has almost no chance of being purchased. Only when it is in the hands of the customer does it have a reasonable chance of being sold.
